WELCOME TO MY HOME ON THE WORLDWIDE WEB! My name is Lisa Coto. I have spent my entire life in education!
THE ST. LOUIS YEARS
My K-12 career started in St. Louis with a Bachelor's Degree in Spanish with K-12 certification. I taught Spanish 1 and 2 for grades 9-12.
NEW ENGLAND
Then I moved to Massachusetts and taught Spanish 1 and 2 there for two years.
CALIFORNIA
I moved to California to the Sacramento area. There I was introduced to a whole new chapter in my professional life. I was employed with the Migrant Education Program focusing on improving the educational experiences for students with unique needs. I worked at training teachers, tutors, creating model lessons and working with district administrators to bring in needed training and updates.
BACK TO NEW ENGLAND
Upon my return to New England I became the teacher and coordinator of a program for teaching English as a Second Language in an elementary school K-6. It was at that time that I decided to continue on and get my Master's Degree in Curriculum and Instruction with an Emphasis in Teaching English as a Second Language. I stayed there for quite a few years. While on hiatus from the school district I also became active as a freelancer in the K-12 textbook writing industry in the areas of Spanish and English as a Second Language, as well as consulting with districts to help create and establish their own programs. I also did teacher training at the state level and taught English as a Second Language in higher education and adult education settings.
BUT THE WEATHER GOT SO COLD...SO AFTER THIRTEEN YEARS!! I moved to sunny and warm Naples, Florida!
FLORIDA
I worked at the district office for several years as a Teacher on Special Assignment, by assisting schools and teachers to develop their programs. At this point I went back to school again and added (over a period of time) several more certifications to go along with my ESOL K-12 and Spanish K-12 certifications.

Students in the state of florida are tested three times per year in the fall, winter and late spring. The scores are 1-5 with 5 being the highest. Students need to score above a Level 2 in order to increase their opportunities to have their choice of non-remedial classes. This particular student scored a 2 in the fall and winter and then started tutoring. Aftetr about eight weeks of tutoring he scored a 3 and was one point away from a 4 !
A.C.--Parent of ninth grade Intensive Reading Student:
"My son was struggling with his reading tests when we met Lisa Coto. He immediately felt comfortable with her. During his sessions, I noticed how attentive he was. While she did well teaching him various test-taking strategies and helped him with his comprehension, to me the most important thing she did was give my son confidence. On test day, he felt ready and gave it his all and significantly improved his reading score. She is kind, patient and dedicated. My son couldn't wait to text her after he got his score! I am very fortunate to have met her and will be calling her again.
K.R.--Adult, Spanish 1 Student:
"In searching for a Spanish Teacher I came across Lisa Coto through a recommendation. Of over twenty plus years in teaching Spanish, she is patient and willing to cover the same material as often as needed. I would recommend Lisa Coto to anyone in need of a teacher or tutor in this case for Spanish.
